Big Spangle Galvanized Steel Coil
Spangle is a surface form of hot-dip galvanized coil. When the steel strip passes through the zinc pot, the surface is coated with liquid zinc, and then during the natural solidification of the zinc layer, the zinc grains nucleate and grow. As the molten zinc adheres to the steel, it creates spangles that cool the sheet below the melting point of zinc, which is about 787 °F [419 °C]. At this temperature, the randomly arranged atoms in liquid zinc begin to orient themselves into a very ordered arrangement. This happens at random locations within the molten zinc layer.
