Galvanized Steel Pipe
Galvanized pipe is steel pipe that has been impregnated with a protective zinc coating to prevent corrosion and rust. Homes built before 1960 commonly have galvanized pipes. When galvanized pipe was invented, it was a substitute for lead pipe in water supply pipes. Today, however, we understand that decades of exposure to water can cause internal corrosion and rust in galvanized pipe.
